Mental Health Announcement

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Let’s eliminate the stigma that is attached to mental illness.  All are welcome to pray to God for those with mental health needs.  To learn more about the progress that has been made in mental health care and the work still to be done, come to one or more of the following events in the St John of the Cross conference room during the month of May. A panel of experts role play to educate us about some of the challenges of mental illness, the worries, the difficulties of getting treatment, the arrests, civil commitment, and mandated treatment.

The story of a brilliant woman who came from a good family, experienced literary success, travelled around the world, became mentally ill, avoided treatment, and lived homeless, often around St. Patrick’s Church in Watsonville, during the 80’s and 90’s.

Personal testimony provides insight and changes attitudes, assumptions, and ideas about what it’s like to have a mental health condition.
