GOLDEN GEMS: The Golden Gems (Santa Teresa’s Golden Gems) is the group for those folks 50 and better. In addition to our annual salad luncheon and fashion show, we have several other activities:
- We meet monthly on the first* Wednesday of the month (with a couple of exceptions when the hall is not available), and enjoy lunch together – pot luck, pizza, KFC, Corned Beef sandwiches.
- Each October we travel to San Francisco by chartered bus for an Italian dinner at Immaculate Conception Church followed by a San Francisco adventure.
- We play Bingo after our lunch in the “odd-numbered” months and in the “even-numbered” months we have entertainment or a speaker except in June when we go to lunch at a nearby buffet and December when we have our Christmas luncheon.
Our group has been involved in many “giving” activities. We collect non perishable items for and make monetary contributions to Teresa’s Pantry at Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter. We contribute to organizations that have provided speakers (Hospice of the Valley, Special Olympics, Salvation Army) and to Sacred Heart Community Services for school supplies for needy students and “survival sacks” for homeless men and women. Each summer we also provide school supplies, including backpacks, to students in our own parish.
On Fathers’ Day weekend we hold a baked-goods sale so the dads in our parish can enjoy a special treat – The proceeds from this are donated to Santa Teresa.
And, above all, we enjoy being together and having some fun.
*During construction of Avila Hall, we are meeting on the second Wednesday in the church.
